Thorne to Sheffield

Tuesday morning I set of from my Mooring in Thorne and started cruising to Sheffield

Yorkshire start to show a different landscape, more hills and woodland

 First swing bridge today
 Control panel easy use

Lift bridge and here it become long cue of cars waiting

Got a good overnight mooring at Barnby Dun

Next day I had plan stop here at Doncaster but was NO free mooring so had to travel on.

The lock on this waterway is huge, loads of climbing and walking but easy lock work,

Had a over night stop at, Sprotbrough, will have a stop here as well on way back. This waterway is dead end.

Still smilling

 Another self operated lock

Get another lock its huge

The reason the lock is huge is because of this boats. Oil Tanker - 60 meter long and 6 meter wide. Transporting oil from Hull to Rotherham

Thurday morning I set of by 7 am, I had booked my passage up to sheffield at 9 am and had few miles travel and two locks

Rotherham

The second lock of the day was a big challenge to get of the boat, but did it in the end, safely

Started the climb up the Tinsley lock flight of 14 wide locks, this locks is shorter, max 60 foot boats.
CRT helps up this locks, and when you travelling here, you need book in at lest 24 hour before.

Huge weir, looking like they making a fish steps here.

At the top of the flight, this locks going up are rather fearsome, turbulence and need be rely slow when filling locks. But was on the top under 3 hours so happy with that.

Arrived in Sheffield by midday and had one night here before I booked in the basin the next day.

Got a good mooring and with electric for a good price. Stay here 11 days before travel to York will commence.

Since Tuesday i have cruised 32 miles and 25 locks,  21 miles of commercial waterways

Happy days

Watch this space....
