Bye bye Sheffield, I will return another Year.
All ready for my passage down the 14 broad locks, the lock keepers was do most of the work today.
Little nice looking boat
Keep smiling ( Relaxing )
Leaking gate
After first of the 16 locks I was back to the river Don where all the locks are massive. You get used to do all this by you self ( electric locks ) but loads of walking and climbing ladder's
First overnight mooring at Sprotbrough
Day 2 and right after my mooring another massive lock, but today it was manned so easy for me
Another warm day and relaxing cruise
I needed do some food shopping and get other heavy duty things so stopped over night at Doncaster.
Third day another lock and this was manned as well happy relaxing, after this lock it is a lift bridge you can have a look at in a previously blog. Done by yourself.
Had a good run so I was doing a long ish cruise day, leaving the river dun cut behind and head straight forward on to New junction canal
Stop lock
Cruising over river Don
On this section of this canal the swing and lift bridges coming in flying order.
All electric but its keeping you fit. All done by yourself
Left turn here and few more miles today get a overnight mooring at Pollington
Day four another early start and another lock to be done
Was lucky at this lock where it was another boat going up with crew so relax for me
Right turn here for me and another new canal / river section
All manual work on this lock, when leaving this lock I will be going on River Aire
Wide and nice river
Sometimes its flood here as well
Suppressed for me to be meeting this, found out soon it was a water ski centre here
Few miles down on the Aire it was time to head for Selby Canal
This flood lock was open so was used to drive true and in to Selby canal
Used lovely
Shallow canal so glad i did not meet another boat.
Soon all done for to day
I was stopping two nights at Selby canal Basin, was a good safe mooring ( photos on my way back)
Day five I used had a relaxing day, walked about and had few refreshment at a local pub. Great place and people. In the after noon I booked my passage on Tidal River Ouse for Tuesday midday. Had a walk down and had a look, this river are fearsome with huge tidal effect, and wow I got rely nervous and have to say little scared. But I guess that is only good for the next day travel.
Tuesday midday, soon look keeper open the gate, now way back only in to the flow.
Flow was pulling me up rivers like a cork, but all good when I had my speed up an was cruising faster and the tide. Was much better and I thought it could be,
When you have picked a cores you have to only stick to it, the tide will only mess things up if you you change you mind.
Was flying over the ground
Its loads of trees and other rubbish floating up and down this river so, little slalom driving are the second nature. This tree was not mowing.
Made it at one piece, nice to see the lock at Naburn and calm river. Well this section was of 15 miles ( 24 km) and in little over 2 hours some is quick on a canal boat. I got a good mooring past the lock.
Wednesday morning I did the last few miles cruise to York.
Had a stop at York marina, bought diesel ( Self declaration ) and changed a gas bottle, One thing you should have in mind when cruising in the north of UK red diesel sales is very fare between, So maybe smart keeping some cans on the boat. I will next time I am in the North.
Palace
York getting closer, trip boat
Last week travelling I have done 75 miles ( 120 km )
Locks done 32
At least 12 Lift or swing bridges
Happy days
Watch this space.....
