Torksey to Boston and Back to Torksey

The Romans built Fossdyke Navigation to link the coast at the Wash, opening up access to the Trent and Witham rivers.  In 1121, the canal was restored and used to transport the stone for the rebuilding of Lincoln Cathedral.

After two days in Torksey i set of.

The Fossdyke & Witham navigation is almost totally straight forward, its few bends but as longer you go its more and more straight. And you can not see over the side of the canal and river, rather uneventful canal and river to drive.

Lincoln will stop on way back

The Glory Hole is the name given by generations of boaters to the High Bridge in Lincoln. It has a narrow and crooked arch which sets a limit on the size of boats using the Witham and going from Brayford Pool, at the start of Foss Dyke, to Boston and the sea.

Its one lock at Lincoln, the upper gate is a guillotine gate.

Had a stop at Washingborogh on my way to Boston, small but nice village

Miles after miles after miles with straight river, can let the mind go here, no need to concentrate about travelling.

second lock on this navigation, at Bardney

Hours and Hours straight

Had a overnight stop here at Southrey, tiny village with a church and a pub

Boston and was here 3 days on secure and safe place mooring.
